Nano Wallet Company apps shutting down February 10, 2020

Since launching the Nano Wallet Company (NWC) wallet apps in June 2018 we have been blown away by the fantastic progress made towards the creation of the now robust and user-friendly Nano wallet ecosystem. There are various open and closed source wallet options now available, which are superior to the wallets we have created.

This steady flow of development has allowed us to re-examine and evaluate our wallets and the diminishing overall value that they provide to users. And after some consideration, we have decided to take steps to decommission all of the NWC wallets.

This includes all versions of iOS, Android and desktop apps. New updates to each app will be available soon and will contain a banner with details of the removal of support and a link to this announcement. Current users of the apps will receive automatic notifications of the available update through their existing installs and/or the app stores.

Desktop app

Although the desktop app may continue to function as long as nodes on the network are peering with node V19.0 (protocol V17), it will take longer to sync a new install over time and we will no longer provide support for the application. As a result, we recommend another wallet option is used. On February 10, 2020 the downloads that allow fast-syncing of the ledger will be turned off, resulting in even slower and longer bootstrapping times.

To save your seed on the desktop app, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Nano Wallet Desktop app
  2. Click on Settings in the top menu
  3. To the right of the Seed field, click on the eye icon to expose the seed
  4. Copy the seed value (64 characters) and store safely
  5. Before deleting the desktop app, use your seed to verify you can properly access your funds in another wallet (see below for alternative wallet options).

iOS and Android apps

On February 10, 2020 the backend servers for the Android and iOS mobile apps will be turned off and the app will no longer be able to send and receive Nano. Up until then the apps will continue to fully function as they do today, but we encourage all users to safely save their seed from their wallets and migrate to an alternative mobile wallet as soon as possible (see below for alternative wallet options).

To save your seed on the desktop app, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Nano Wallet Company mobile app
  2. Tap on thesettings gear icon in top-right corner of the account screen
  3. Tap on Copy My Wallet Seed, completing verification to access
  4. Copy the seed value (64 characters) and store safely:
    • iOS: Tap on Copy Seed to add seed to your clipboard and securely save per the recommendations in the app
    • Android: The seed is not allowed to be copied to the clipboard for security reasons, so the seed will need to be manually written down outside the app in a secure location.
  5. Before deleting the app, use your seed to verify you can properly access your funds in another wallet (see below for alternative wallet options).

Alternative wallet options

There are a couple of mobile wallet options available in the App Store and Google Play today. To find the best options please visit Nano.org/pay for links to the various options and research the wallets you are most comfortable using.
